Profile

Alternative option to kennels for dogs. Send their dogs to host families who take care of the dogs whilst families are on holiday

We are Alan and Amanda Hartley and we live in Kippax, Leeds with our two children, Matthew aged 23 and Jennifer aged 21. We cover the Leeds area including Ilkley and Guiseley, Wetherby, Tadcaster, Garforth, Rothwell, Pudsey and all the places in-between. We have always been animal lovers, having dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small furry friends. We were first introduced to Barking Mad six years ago when we became a host family. We loved the companionship of looking after dogs, keeping us fit and active. Over the years we have had lots of visitors to stay, ranging from Jack Russell’s to a Scottish Deer hound.

We fell in love with the whole concept of Barking Mad and when the opportunity arose to purchase the business we jumped at the chance and have never looked back. People come to Barking mad for a superior alternative to kennels or house sitting. They expect the best from our dog holidays and we make it our mission to provide it, every time. We select the ideal host family from our portfolio of trusted dog lovers and provide accommodation in a warm, friendly home environment with one to one dog care, where exercise and feeding routines are maintained. Barking Mad offers complete piece of mind. We know that all our doggie customers have wonderful holidays, sometimes better than their owners.

Testimonials

Christine has clearly taken very good care of her and we are so pleased.

Hello, I have read the lovely postcard we received from Christine I just wanted to say a massive thank you. We were so worried about leaving Poppy and seeing just how happy she is after getting back, we know we made the right decision. Christine has clearly taken very good care of her and we are so pleased. Please could you pass the message on to Christine too, we will definitely be using barking Mad again and will do our best to book as early as possible to make sure Christine is available. Thanks again.

We would just like to thank them for taking such care of him whilst we were away.

We left our very precious little dog Gizmo with Jean and John, we would just like to thank them for taking such care of him whilst we were away. We find it very hard to leave him (as he is a little bit spoilt ) but although we missed him we felt very happy that he was being looked after as he would be at home with us , ( even being allowed to sleep on the bed ) Once again many thanks to Jean and John and to Amanda and Alan for sorting it all out . X

Thanks for making my week without my family like home from home.

Hi Amanda and Alan,
Thanks for making my week without my family like home from home. My host is now my new bezzy mate, she was great with me, mum can tell because I am so happy and came home so chilled out. They are so relieved because they say kennels are like the compound and no way do I want to experience that again.
So, a big lick from your staffy mate, Oona xxxx.
P.S I miss that window seat at my host's house.
Mum,Dad and Rosie would also like to say thanks. So until next time, WOOF.

I can go away without a worry.

I am so grateful to have found Barking Mad. Spike really hated kennels, so when he first went to stay at someone else's house I was a little apprehensive. As a large bouncy dog I had never let anyone else look after him. It was a triumph, from the moment that Alan or Amanda comes to pick him up he is excited and just can't wait to get in the car. He settles in well and I have also learnt a lot about him, especially how well he behaves. He loves people and cuddles with his hosts and he still gets his sofa and when he comes home he is tired and happy. I can go away without a worry.
